The SteriPEN Classic requires 4 AA batteries, sold separately. Alkaline or lithium batteries will work in the SteriPEN Classic, but rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are your best option, as they last far longer and outperform other batteries in cold temperatures.
