The success story that is Outside Sports today began in 1995 when John and Judy Knight moved to Queenstown and opened their first outdoor shop and called it Outside Sports. Their vision was to create a unique outdoor sports shop, that was dramatically different from any other store in Queenstown, and have a product range devoted exclusively to outdoor sports. They wanted Queenstowners to enjoy and be as passionate about the outdoors as they were.
The formula certainly worked and in 1996 the company moved to the top of the Queenstown Mall site and they never looked back. The store operated seven days a week, running a retail shop, gear hire and a workshop. In 1998 the store further expanded and introduced the ever popular range of Icebreaker Clothing. In 2003 Outside Sports moved its operation into an award winning purpose built building in Shotover Street, where we are currently operating out of today. In 2009 Outside Sports merged with Outside Sports Te Anau, owned by John Greaney, and Good Sports Wanaka, owned by Peter King, to further increase Outside Sports identity within the region. Today, Outside Sports has 4 stores, Queenstown’s Shotover Street, Queenstown Airport's Touch lab, Te Anau, and Wanaka. The company is owned by John Knight, John Greaney, Peter King. Ivan Santin is the new General Manager for the group. Our online store www.outsidesports.co.nz is a small personalised company managed and run by Judy Knight. We offer a prompt efficient service with a quick turnaround of orders. We have now been successfully selling great New Zealand outdoor products online now for 12 years. We are 100% committed to providing you with exceptional customer service and a stress free and enjoyable online shopping experience. Of paramount importance to the company is the ability to offer and be dedicated to improving the outside experience for everyone.
