Cross Country Rides

Perfect bikes: Specialized Hardrock 29, Specialized Myka 26, Specialized Jett

12 Mile Delta to Bob's Cove and back 20km return, 1-2 hours. Easy to intermediate

The trail begins at the far end of the DOC campground, heading away from Queenstown and is flat for most of the way. There are a couple of short steeper sections and you may need to walk these. The trail weaves its way along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, in and out of native bush and passes by private coves that will be tempting for a swim if it's warm enough! At the Bobs Cove end you will reach an intersection with an option of heading up to a rocky lookout point. You can either park your bike and walk up to the lookout or take the right fork and keep riding to Bobs cove. There are old lime kilns and hut ruins with interpretive panels to explore and picturesque views from the Bobs Cove jetty. We suggest riding back the same way.

Trail Rides

Perfect bikes: Specialized Camber, Specialized Rumor, Specialized Enduro 650b, Specialized Epic 29er

Fernhill Loop 2-4 hours. Advanced.

This is one of the locals favourite trail rides. You can access this from Skyline Bike Park turning off Hammies Track or you can ride up Skyline Bike Park access road to the halfway clearing and follow the Fernhill Loop sign posts from there. This trail passes through beautiful native beech forest. After crossing the stream get ready to push your bike as the trail becomes steeper and very rooty. It is best to ride this trail on a dry summer's day as the roots can get very slippery. You will be rewarded for the hike a bike with some of the best views in town when you break out of the bush at the first clearing. It is very popular to turn around at this point and ride back down the fun root fest that you just pushed up. Alternatively, if you keep going you will end up on the Wynyard Express downhill track and pop out down at lake level onto Lake Esplanade for a nice flat pedal back to town for ice cream!

Coronet Peak XC/DH, Rude Rock, Skippers Pack Track, Zoot Track 2 -4 hours. Intermediate to advanced.

From the Coronet Peak Ski Field road you can access several trails. Ride up the Coronet XC trail that starts on the learners slope on the far side of the base building all the way to the top of the peak. From here you have the option of riding back down the same way for some fast flowing corners or down the downhill trail that starts from the top of the chairlift for a bit more of a technical challenge.

Once back at the base building you can link onto Rude Rock. This trail has quickly become one of the most famous trails in Queenstown, for good reason. From the base building, ride pass the first aid building before pedalling up a short sharp climb on your right. The start of Rude Rock is sign posted. This trail is fast and open and will have your eyes watering by the bottom.

Part way down Rude Rock you can turn off onto a trail that links with the Skippers Pack Track. The Skippers Pack Track will then take you all the way into the bottom of Skippers Valley. So be prepared with water and snacks for the 45 min to 1 hour ride back up on the road or arrange a shuttle pick up.

Zoot Track starts from the cattle stop at Skippers Saddle. This is one of Queenstown original trails and its multiple line options make it a good trail to do several laps of.

We suggest linking these four trails together for an epic day of riding. It is best to arrange someone to drop you off up at the Coronet Ski Field base building or easier still, get shuttled by Queenstown Bike Taxis, ask in store for booking details.

This is a fun, flowing purpose built single track that will take you back to your car at Wilson Bay. The DOC walking track is for uphill riding only so please use Phoenix to ride down.
