About Patagonia
Founded in 1973, Patagonia is a Benefit Corporation (B Corporation)—a business structure that commits to balancing profit with purpose. Certified by the nonprofit B Lab, B Corporations meet rigorous standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
Patagonia’s mission says it all: “We're in business to save our home planet.”
Environmental Commitment
1% for the Planet: 1% of sales to grassroots environmental groups. Outside Sports proudly shares this commitment as a fellow member of 1% for the Planet. In fact, we donate 1% of all Patagonia sales—not just profits—to environmental causes through the same network.
Worn Wear Program: Patagonia’s repair and reuse initiative encourages customers to fix gear instead of replacing it, reducing waste and extending product life. While repairs are done directly by Patagonia (through their stores or by mail), Outside Sports can help guide you through the process and recommend trusted local repair options where available.
NetPlus® Material: Many Patagonia products are made from recycled fishing nets, helping reduce ocean plastic waste.
Regenerative Organic Certified™ Cotton: Supporting healthier soil, biodiversity, and fair treatment for farm workers.
Social Responsibility
Fair Trade Certified™Fair Trade Certified apparel: They pay an additional premium for every Fair Trade Certified item sold. That money goes directly to workers in the factories, who decide how it’s used—whether for community projects, healthcare, childcare, or to raise wages. As of recent years, over 75,000 workers in 10 countries have benefited from this program.
Supply Chain Transparency: Patagonia openly shares details about the factories and mills that make their products. On their website, you can explore their interactive Footprint Chronicles, where each product lists its exact factory location, the materials used, and the environmental or social standards it meets. For example, their Baggies Shorts are made in a Fair Trade Certified facility in Sri Lanka, and that information is published alongside factory certifications and working conditions.
Grassroots Activism Support: Patagonia actively funds and partners with hundreds of grassroots environmental groups through their Action Works platform, helping communities protect the natural world—from rivers and forests to climate policies and wild lands. In New Zealand, 1% of all Patagonia sales and donations to 1% for the Planet go directly back to grassroots organizations here in Aotearoa, supporting local efforts to protect and restore the environment.
Why We Stock Patagonia
At Outside Sports, we believe in supporting businesses that give back—and that give back to the planet they rely on. Patagonia’s commitment to long-lasting gear, ethical manufacturing, and bold environmental action reflects our own values.
We’re also committed to investing in future generations by protecting the natural spaces they’ll grow up exploring. Whether it’s through trail maintenance, reducing waste, donating to 1% for the Planet, or choosing brands that do better—we’re supporting the long-term health of our outdoor playgrounds
When you choose Patagonia gear from Outside Sports, you’re not just investing in performance and quality—you’re becoming part of a global movement to care for people and planet.
