Outside Sports Happy Trails – pack walks with Dr Dog is a new family event where you can take your dog on a fun adventure with other dogs on the beautiful hiking trails around Wanaka. It’s the perfect way to enjoy exercise with your dog and have fun too.

Outside Sports and Dr Dog proudly supporting SARDA NZ

Happy Trails is an initiative by Outside Sports Wanaka and local dog trainer and avalanche dog handler Matt Gunn AKA Dr Dog in support of a very relevant and important service for everyone who loves being out in the mountains - Search and Rescue Dogs Avalanche NZ (SARDA NZ).

SARDA NZ is a volunteer organisation providing Aotearoa’s only avalanche dog response service with 17 dogs nationwide - with 9 in the Southern Lakes region. We’re on call throughout the year to help whenever people run into trouble –specifically locating people buried by avalanches.

SARDA NZ doesn’t get any government funding. It relies entirely on donations from people like you who love the mountains. Please visit to support.

That's why events like Happy Trails Pack Walks by Outside Sports Wanaka and Dr Dog are so important.

The first Outside Sports Happy Trails Pack Walk with Dr Dog event is on Thursday 29 February at 5.30pm and will take about an hour or so. The meeting point is the swing bridge carpark accessed through the Albert Town DOC camping ground. Matt is happy to talk about anything dog including any behaviour or training issues you may want guidance with.

Donations to SARDA

Walkers (and their dogs) can make a donation to SARDA at the event using the QR code they’ll see displayed on the side of the SARDA NZ vehicle.

Because Happy Trails is a family event in a public place all dogs must be on a lead at all times, and owners must clean up after their dogs.

There will also be spot prizes donated by Mons Royale.
