August Wrap Up

August Race Blog

This august I made the move to Cambridge to board at St Peters School. This has been a huge change but has been really epic so far. I have since been swimming with the St Peters Swim Academy and have seen big improvements over the last month. I am also really enjoying the new scenery and have been doing a lot of exploring on my bike.

My first race for St Peters went really well. On the 2nd of August was the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Duathlon champs and I capped that off with a win but struggled a bit on the two run sections with growing pains in my knees. Four days later was the National Duathlon champs and my knees didn’t play ball. I couldn’t match the pace on the first run and all my rivals away. The pounding on my knees was just to much and they kept increasing the gap. I hopped on the bike a good minute down on the leaders. On the bike I managed to make it to the front riding one minute and thirty seconds faster than anyone else. Then the same again on the second run. Just couldn’t push it through the pain and I got caught by two boys on the run to finish up in 3rd. Quite disappointed to miss out on a potential national title but have sorted the knees and am back running again as per normal now.

I also participated in the Dynamo Winter Series races rounds two and three. In round two three men went up the road to take out the podium and it came down to a bunch sprint for the minor placings. I sprinted to 9th overall and 3rd under 17. The third round was purely unlucky for me. 10 kilometers into the race I jammed my chain and then as I was chasing back on to the bunch I got a flat tyre. I quickly changed my flat and joined in with the second wave of riders as they passed. In the final I attacked with about a kilometer to go and just got caught by two riders 50 meters before the line to finish 3rd in the second wave of riders.
