Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival – 19-22 February 2015

Challenge Wanaka features one of the world’s toughest and most scenic long distance triathlon, 226km, an iron distance race set against the lake and mountain backdrop of Mount Aspiring National Park in New Zealand’s South Island. One of New Zealand’s largest sport festival, Challenge Wanaka multi-day triathlon festival holds events for all ages and abilities involving over 2,000 participants, attracting thousands of spectators and a global audience of millions.

Challenge Wanaka is the race of a lifetime for professional and amateur athletes from across world. The course consists of a 3.8km swim in lake Wanaka, then 180km bike taking in two alpine lakes and a 42.2km run which is 75% off-road along the water’s edge.

Watch multiple world champion Chris ‘Macca’ McCormack talk about Challenge Wanaka:

The festival includes the Lake Wanaka Half, the Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka for triathletes aged six to fifteen, Radio Wanaka Fun Run and Swim the Course in the days before the main event.

The Challenge Wanaka race will be held on Sunday 22 February 2015 which runs at the same time as the Lake Wanaka Half. The finish line is in the Wanaka town and, in true ‘Challenge’ style, cross into the celebrations at the finish line with music and fireworks.

The weather in Lake Wanaka in February is mainly warm and dry, an average temperature of 26-28 C. It is however an alpine environment so athletes must be prepared for all eventualities. Outside Sports Wanaka have a great range of BikeRun and Nutrition supplies to make sure you are prepared. As well as a Bike workshop to get your bike race ready, pop in and speak to one of the experts.
