The Wanaka Rogaine will be held Sunday 26 April 2015. At Snow Park, 2k’s west of Snow Farm up from the Cardrona Valley.
If you enjoy running trails, tramping in the hills and mountains with your friends then the Wanaka Rogaine is for you! Rogaine involves long distance cross-country navigation, the team with the most points awarded wins. In Rogaine, teams consist of generally 2-5 people; teamwork is a vital factor to the sport alongside endurance. Teams will have to strategically plan their route and navigate between checkpoints using a map and given clues within a specified time limit. Some checkpoints are worth more points than others so it is vital that the teams select which checkpoints they will get and which they may leave to finish within their specified time slot, as they will lose points for being late back to the finish. (1 minute late back will deduct 10 points in the Wanaka Rogaine). It is very rare for teams to get all check points in a Rogaine within the specified time slot allocated.
The Mitre 10 Wanaka Rogaine has 3, 6 and 12 hour options, meaning you have up to exactly 3, 6 or 12 hours to get to and record the codes of as many checkpoints as you can.
Compulsory Gear requirements:
Two base layers Polyprop or wool, Water proof Jacket (seam sealed) and over trousers, warm hat and gloves – polyprop or wool, headlight, survival blanket, Whistle, one litre of water, one first aid kit per team, one cellphone per team.
