The headline to this article is Forbidden’s own description of their latest monster of an e-MTB – the Dreadnought E. And as Forbidden’s exclusive retailer in the Southern Lakes, the team at Bikes By Outside Sports are excited to be the only bike shop in the South to be stocking them.

Forbidden Dreadnought E

Forbidden Dreadnought E - Up to 1,500W and 150Nm in Beast (Boost) Mode

The Forbidden Dreadnought E is powered by either the Avinox M2 or M2S motor.

At launch at Bikes By Outside Sports we have the Tier 1 and Tier 2 models, which both get the M2S motor that delivers 130 Nm of torque (150 Nm Boost) and 1300 watts, from a lightweight 2.6 kg package.

Tier 3 and Tier 4 models run the M2 motor, which produces 110 Nm of torque (125 Nm on Boost) and 1100 watts, with a motor weight of 2.65 kg.

Both builds can be paired with 600 Wh or 800 Wh battery options, letting you choose between a lighter setup or maximum range. However we are only stocking the 800Wh version, which we think is a better option for the type of riding people like to do in our region.

What all that means for riders lucky enough to own one of these beasts, in either configuaration is effortless climbing – even on steep technical terrain. And you can do it all day. The tune of the motor tune has been optimised for lapping rather than sprinting.

Battery swaps can be made quickly and easily by pivoting the motor out of the way.

The specs that make the new Forbidden Dreadnought a weapon

There is 170mm of rear travel paired with a 180mm fork, built around Forbidden's signature high-pivot, four-bar Trifecta linkage.

The geometry is similar to the Forbidden Supernought analogue DH bike, with a 63-degree head angle. Wheels are 29-inch front and 27.5-inch rear.

The frame is full-carbon throughout, including the rocker link, that minimises the weight to around 22.5kg all up. But with all that power on tap you wouldn’t notice it going uphill if it was twice that.

Naturally the Dreadnought E features their signature idler pulley with a refined designed aimed at improving durability and reliability with T-Type chains.

RideWrap is installed at the factory on high-wear areas.

Want a Bike Built to Flatten Mountains? The Forbidden Dreadnought E is For You

The Forbidden Dreadnought E is leap forward in e-mountain bikes with massive uphill power combined with dedicated DH geometry that rewards you on the downhill. There are only a few these awesome machines making it to NZ from Forbidden’s Canadian home, so it you’d like one, make sure to get in touch with the team at Bikes By Outside Sports in Wanaka or Queenstown.
